Spanish national team winger Nico Williams has described his recent muscle injury as 'one of the worst days' of his life but declared that the setback will not deter him. The injury, sustained in the final moments of Spain's match against Uruguay due to a tackle from Nico de la Cruz, affects his right adductor. Williams took to Instagram to share his feelings, stating that 'the story is not over' and expressing his eagerness to return to the World Cup as soon as possible.

Today is one of the worst days of my life. I get injured again after a very complicated year, in which osteitis pubis won many battles, but not the war. I managed to overcome it with work, sacrifice, and, above all, responsibility.

This is not the first significant injury Williams has faced. He recounted a difficult year and a half battling with osteitis pubis, a condition that caused him considerable suffering, sadness, uncertainty, and anxiety. He described living with pain in simple daily activities like using the bathroom or getting in and out of a car. Recovering his ability to play football without pain and regaining a sense of normalcy were his top priorities, alongside his smile and happiness, which he believes are essential for peak performance.

It was a year and a half of suffering, sadness, uncertainty, and anxiety. I didn't know when I would play without pain again or when I would recover a normal life. I even learned to live with the pain in simple things like going to the bathroom, getting in and out of the car, or simply enjoying daily life.

Following his recovery from osteitis pubis, Williams experienced another setback with a hamstring injury, which again tested his resolve. He admitted to losing his smile during that period but reiterated his determination not to be stopped. He attributed the latest injury to a 'frustrated, discontented, and sad' tackle from an opponent, which he deemed unnecessary.

But this is not going to stop me either. I know that God has a plan for me and I will continue to fight until the last moment to do what I love most: play football, be happy, and bring a lot of joy. Williams believes that 'God has a plan' for him and is committed to fighting until the end to return to playing football, find happiness, and bring joy to fans. While the severity of the injury will determine his availability, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has not ruled him out for the remainder of the 2026 World Cup, depending on Spain's progress in the tournament.
