Nicole Gerard highlights daily violence in new series

The second season of Prime Video's "Nadie nos va a extrañar" (Nobody is going to miss us) revisits themes of grief, identity, sexual awakening, and bullying. Though set in the 1990s, these issues remain relevant for today's teenagers.

I was very quiet. I went to school, took my classes, chatted between classes, and went home when they were over. I wasn't interested in socializing more than necessary. I do feel I was much more open and friendly than Gabi, but that part about not wasting time was something I did identify with.

Nicole Gerard, who joins the cast as Gabi, a freshman who disrupts the group's dynamic, believes the series excels at showing how forms of violence once considered normal are now viewed differently. Gerard, who describes herself as quieter than her character, identified with Gabi's focus on not wasting time. She noted that bullying was often narrowly defined as physical aggression, overlooking psychological abuse.

Gerard recalled that during her school years, enduring mockery or mistreatment was seen as part of growing up. "They expected you to put up with it and that it made you strong, when that's not really the case. I think we needed to give more importance to that type of violence," she stated.

At first I thought it didn't happen to me much, but then I remembered many things that at the time I saw as normal. We only think about physical aggression when psychological ones can affect even more.

The series, according to Gerard, is important for opening conversations about these issues that were long relegated to schools and families. She praised the production for its honest portrayal of these conflicts. "The series touches on important topics from a very true angle. It helps both teenagers and adults understand the different points of view on the same issue," she said.

"Nadie nos va a extrañar" premieres on August 7 with eight episodes. The story follows Marifer, Daniela, Tenoch, and Alex as they cope with Memo's death, the arrival of new students, and the challenges of their final year of high school.
