Niederwald Monument cleaned after paint attack with anti-fascist slogans

The historic Niederwald Monument, a significant landmark overlooking Rüdesheim am Rhein, has been restored to its former glory after suffering a paint attack. Police confirmed that the monument "shines again in its old splendor" following a thorough cleaning operation.

The act of vandalism occurred between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, when unidentified individuals used white and red paint to inscribe slogans associated with the left-wing spectrum onto the monument. Among the messages were "FCK NZS," an acronym for "Fuck Nazis," and "161," which stands for "Antifaschistische Aktion" (Antifascist Action).

Despite the clear nature of the defacement, authorities have yet to identify any suspects in connection with the incident. The cleaning process itself incurred a cost of several thousand euros, though the exact amount remains undisclosed. The Niederwald Monument commemorates the establishment of the first German national state following the victory in the Franco-Prussian War, making the attack a notable disruption to a site of historical importance.
