Niger Police Hunt Killers of Deputy Governor's Aide

Authorities in Niger State are actively pursuing the individuals responsible for the death of Kafar Dadawu Abdullahi, an aide to the state's deputy governor. Abdullahi was fatally stabbed last week by suspected assailants who allegedly broke into his residence in Minna, the state capital.

Jafar was staying with his newly wedded wife and his teenage daughter from a previous marriage when they noticed that the entrance door to their living room had been left open around 2 a.m. He went into the parlour to ask if anyone was there but got no response. Moments later, he was stabbed in the upper part of his chest by an assailant suspected to have been hiding inside the apartment at the time.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Thursday at Abdullahi's home, located opposite the Matumbi police station. He was reportedly with his newlywed wife and teenage daughter at the time. According to a source, Abdullahi went to investigate a noise after noticing the apartment door was ajar, only to be attacked by an assailant believed to have been hiding inside.

A family source recounted seeing a single masked individual wearing a jalabiya stab Abdullahi in the upper chest and face. The deceased, a former President of the Minna Emirate Youth Association, sustained severe injuries.

I saw only one person dressed in a jalabiya and wearing a face mask. Jafar sustained a facial injury and a stab wound to the chest.

Ummikhaltume Abdullahi Kuta, the Press Secretary to the state deputy governor, issued a statement calling the incident "tragic and painful." The deputy governor extended condolences to Abdullahi's family, praying for his eternal rest and for strength for the bereaved. The statement urged relevant authorities to ensure justice is served and called for calm among residents as investigations proceed. The Niger State Police Command confirmed the murder and stated that officers were dispatched to the scene after an alarm was raised.
