Nigeria Democratic Congress Resolves Internal Crisis, Focuses on 2027 Elections

Abuja, Nigeria – Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that all internal disputes within the party have been successfully resolved. Following a three-hour closed-door meeting with the NDC's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other key party figures, Dickson announced on Friday that recent "issues that have been a source of concern" were amicably settled.

I just received my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, our presidential candidate, who, together with some distinguished leaders of our party, held a closed-door meeting which lasted about three hours.

Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, shared the update via a Facebook post after the meeting. He described Obi as his "brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project." While the specifics of the resolved "issues" were not detailed, they are widely believed to stem from Dickson's recent public exchange with Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu. Yesufu had alleged manipulation in the FCT Senatorial District primaries, where she was an aspirant, and Dickson had responded by suggesting she might not have adhered to the rules. He also mentioned that an initial offer of a House of Representatives ticket to Yesufu was rejected.

In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues.

Despite acknowledging that "a few issues" arose during the recent meeting, Dickson expressed confidence in the party's path forward, stating, "We have agreed on how to handle them moving forward." He emphasized that he and other NDC leaders remain focused on the "bigger picture": securing victory in the 2027 general elections and ousting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government, which he characterized as misgoverning Nigeria.

Dickson urged NDC members to cease internal "bickering and name-calling" and redirect their energy toward achieving electoral success. He reiterated that continuous consultation and engagement among leaders and stakeholders are crucial for strengthening party unity and cohesion, ensuring a unified front in their mission to "rescue Nigeria and build a better future for all."
