Nigeria: Ex-Labour Party Candidate Launches Movement for Political Change

A new sociopolitical platform, the Village People Movement, has been launched by Olamide Awosunle, a former Labour Party House of Representatives candidate, signaling a renewed call for citizen engagement in Nigeria's political process. Unveiled at the Ife City Hall in Osun State, the initiative drew a diverse crowd, underscoring a shared desire for enhanced grassroots political participation and good governance.

Awosunle, serving as the movement's coordinator, described the launch as a pivotal moment for national reflection, emphasizing the urgent need for Nigerians to actively shape their country's future. He expressed deep concern over the nation's current state, citing pervasive issues such as insecurity, unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, weak institutions, and widespread corruption as significant impediments to national development. Awosunle asserted that lasting change can only be achieved through proactive citizen involvement, moving away from political apathy.

While launched in Ile-Ife, the movement's ambitions are national, with plans for expansion across Nigeria.
