Nigeria inspects Lagos facilities for maiden National Intermediate Games

Officials from Nigeria's National Sports Commission (NSC) have conducted a thorough inspection of facilities in Lagos, gearing up for the inaugural National Intermediate Games. The event is slated to run from October 1 to October 15, with the Teslim Balogun Stadium designated as the primary venue.

The delegation assessed the readiness and suitability of the facilities earmarked for the games.

The inspection team, comprising members of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC), assessed various sporting infrastructure. This included the stadium turf, indoor sports hall, and other key areas. The delegation also visited other significant sites such as the National Stadium complex in Surulere, the National Institute for Sports (NIS) Rowe Park Sports Centre, Yaba College of Technology, the University of Lagos facilities, the Elegbata Sports Centre, the Cricket Oval at Tafawa Balewa Square, and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, which is being considered for the opening and closing ceremonies.

Following the site visits, the MOC and LOC convened a technical meeting to address operational and logistical matters. Twenty-eight sports are planned for the games, which are specifically designed for athletes under 19 years old, born between January 1, 2008, and September 30, 2009. Athletes from all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and diaspora contingents will compete.
