Nigeria publishes 2027 presidential candidates' documents

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the personal particulars and academic credentials of presidential candidates for the 2027 general election. This move, mandated by the Electoral Act 2026, allows the public to scrutinize the submitted documents.

President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) resubmitted his 1979 Bachelor of Science degree from Chicago State University. Notably, details regarding his primary and secondary education remain absent, as was the case in the 2023 election. His submitted records indicate employment at Mobil Nigeria Limited from 1983 to 1992, following his National Youth Service Corps participation.

In contrast, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, running under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), provided a comprehensive educational history. His submissions include a First School Leaving Certificate from 1954, a West African School Certificate from 1961, and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations obtained in 2020.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), also submitted a detailed educational timeline. His documents show attendance at Augustine’s Primary School in 1973 and Christ the King College in 1978, culminating in a graduation from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1984.

All political parties have recently submitted their candidate lists to INEC, adhering to the commission's timetable for the 2027 polls. This includes presidential, vice presidential, gubernatorial, and legislative candidates.
