Nigeria's APC Pardons Members for Anti-Party Activities Ahead of 2027 Polls

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Abia chapter of Nigeria's All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended an olive branch to its members, granting unconditional pardons for alleged anti-party activities. This reconciliation effort seeks to mend internal rifts and bolster the party's electoral chances in the state.

The decision, made during a post-primaries review and reconciliation meeting, was moved by Uzor Azubuike, the APC candidate for Aba North/South Federal Constituency. He stressed that unity and forgiveness are paramount to protecting the party's prospects. Emmanuel Ndubuisi, a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, seconded the motion, urging members to set aside past grievances and work collaboratively.

APC State Chairman Chijioke Chukwu described the party's primaries as the most successful in Abia's history. He called on aggrieved members to utilize established party channels for resolving disputes rather than resorting to public complaints. Chukwu specifically addressed Senator Orji Kalu and House of Representatives member Chris Nkwonta, stating that private discussions led to reconciliation over sanctions. Both leaders reportedly explained their past actions stemmed from dissatisfaction with party processes, not a desire to undermine the APC.

This move follows a previous ultimatum issued by the State Working Committee (SWC) regarding alleged anti-party comments supporting Governor Alex Otti's 2027 reelection bid. Otti, the incumbent governor, is running under the Labour Party. The SWC had deemed the comments embarrassing and detrimental to party unity. A Peace and Reconciliation Committee was subsequently established to visit all 184 wards and mediate disputes, aiming to solidify party cohesion.
