Nigeria's Delegation to Canada-Africa Summit Announced, Led by Zamfara Governor Lawal

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal is set to represent Nigeria at the upcoming Canada-Africa Summit in Toronto, focusing on digital rails and inclusive growth. The maiden investment summit, scheduled from August 10 to 15, 2026, is a significant platform for Nigeria to enhance its diplomatic and economic ties with Canada and other African nations.

The invitation to Governor Lawal highlights his role as a key participant, expected to bolster Nigeria's standing at the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NDIEC). This conference serves as a premier global forum for governments, investors, and multinational corporations to forge strategic partnerships and explore investment opportunities. The summit aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's National Energy Transition Plan, aiming to position Nigeria as a crucial partner in Africa-Canada economic cooperation.

The Zamfara State Government views the NIDEC as more than a diplomatic event; it's a strategic economic mission. The objective is to attract investment, facilitate technology transfer, secure development funding, and establish technical partnerships essential for the state's economic transformation. Governor Lawal's participation is expected to showcase Zamfara State as an emerging hub for agribusiness, strategic minerals development, human capital growth, and digital innovation.

Nigeria's delegation is substantial, including the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and several state governors: Charles Soludo (Anambra), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Caleb Muftwang (Plateau). Additionally, key ministers such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; and Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, are part of the delegation.
