Nigeria's Igoh Ogbu to Undergo Scan for Suspected Achilles Injury

Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbu is set to undergo a scan in Lisbon, Portugal, today to determine the severity of an injury sustained during training on Saturday. The suspected rupture of his left Achilles tendon has ruled him out of Nigeria's upcoming friendly match against Portugal.

Despite earlier reports suggesting he had returned to Prague, the team's Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, confirmed that Ogbu remains with the Super Eagles squad in Lisbon. "Injured Igoh Ogbu is still in the Super Eagles camp. Disregard reports that he has gone back to Prague. He will undergo a scan here in Lisbon on Monday," Efoghe stated in a team update.

Ogbu has been a consistent performer for Nigeria in their recent matches, featuring throughout the Unity Cup triumph in London and playing 45 minutes against Poland last Wednesday. His injury presents a challenge for coach Eric Chelle, whose defensive options are already limited by other withdrawals.

Nigeria will face a Portuguese side bolstered by the arrival of four key players from Paris Saint-Germain: Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, João Neves, and Gonçalo Ramos. These players joined the squad on Saturday after their Champions League final victory. Portugal's coach, Roberto Martínez, confirmed that these players, along with others, are expected to be available for the match, with Rafael Leão being the only notable absence due to a red card in a previous game.
