Nigeria's NDC disowns primary results, summons NEC to ratify outcome

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially distanced itself from various results of its recently concluded nationwide primaries that have been circulating on social media. The party insists that only its National Executive Council (NEC) is authorized to announce the official outcome of the exercise, warning the public to disregard any results shared in the media.

The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026.

The official results of the primaries, conducted on May 28 and 29, remain under the custody of the NEC. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced in Abuja that an NEC meeting has been summoned for next week to deliberate on the primaries and other related matters. The meeting is scheduled to include a pre-NEC session on Tuesday, June 2, followed by the main NEC meeting on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council, NEC, of our great party. They are solely responsible for announcements of results.

Director clarified that the NEC meeting was called on the directive of the National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson. The party assured members and stakeholders that the official list of candidates selected from the primaries would be made public after the ratification process and before submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). "The general public and stakeholders will be informed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to the INEC," the statement read.

On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting of the party has been called.

This clarification comes amid growing speculation surrounding the outcome of the party's primaries, which were held nationwide to select candidates for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections. The upcoming emergency NEC meeting is expected to play a crucial role in ratifying the results and resolving any potential disputes before the party submits its final candidate list to INEC.
