Nigerian Army announces major leadership shake-up

The Nigerian Army has implemented a broad reshuffling of its senior leadership, repositioning officers across vital operational commands, field commands, school commands, and principal staff positions at the army headquarters. The announcement came in a statement released on Saturday by army spokesperson Appolonia Anele.

In the new posting, Major General WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola, while Major General EI Okoro takes over as General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), approved the strategic changes. The army stated the reshuffling is intended to boost operational effectiveness, bolster national security, and enhance the army's capacity to confront evolving security threats nationwide.

Brigadier General I Waziri remains in the Office of the COAS as Chief of Staff (COS).

Among the key appointments, Major General WM Dangana now commands the 3 Division Nigerian Army and the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, succeeding Major General EF Oyinlola. Major General EI Okoro has taken charge as the General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka.

Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed commander of the Army Space Command, reinforcing the agency’s growing focus on emerging domains of warfare and technology-driven security operations.

Further changes include Major General SA Emmanuel's appointment as commander of the Army Space Command, signaling a focus on modern warfare domains and technology-driven security operations. Major General KE Chigbu will serve as Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, and Major General SD Makolo is appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School. The COAS has urged the newly appointed officers to uphold their duties with diligence and commitment.
