Nigerian Army begins promotion assessment for 1,115 warrant officers in Rivers

The Nigerian Army has begun assessing 1,115 candidates for promotion to warrant officer and master warrant officer ranks in Rivers State. Headquarters 6 Division is hosting the exercise at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.

Major General Adewale Adekeye, the Army’s Chief of Personnel Management, urged candidates to demonstrate professionalism and perform to the best of their ability. He also told them to respect their physical limits, saying, “Your health and wellbeing remain paramount to the Nigerian Army and your families.”

The exercise, which began on September 2 and ends on September 22, includes documentation and certificate screening, medical examinations, physical fitness tests, weapon handling, drill, computer literacy tests, written examinations and oral interviews. Adekeye assured the candidates that the Promotion Board would conduct the process fairly and objectively under established guidelines.

Major General Everest Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander for Operation DELTA SAFE, welcomed the board and expressed confidence in its experience and professional judgment. He urged candidates to approach the process with discipline and confidence, describing it as an opportunity to show their competence, leadership qualities and readiness for greater responsibility.

Okoro said the decision to hold the exercise at 6 Division reflected the Army’s focus on professional development, merit-based advancement and continuous improvement. He reminded successful candidates that promotion involved more than a higher rank. It also required them to accept broader responsibilities and meet higher expectations as leaders.
