Nigerian House of Representatives: Military Achieving Successes Amid Security Challenges

Despite persistent security challenges across Nigeria, the nation's security agencies are achieving operational successes in various theaters, the House of Representatives stated Friday. The House acknowledged recent statements from its Minority Caucus regarding the security situation and the need for an effective national response.

Hon. Akintunde Rotimi, the House Spokesman, noted that while security remains a pressing national concern, the issues raised by the Minority Caucus reflect genuine public anxieties. He stressed the need for sustained vigilance, coordinated action, and continued collaboration among all government branches.

The House notes ongoing interventions and operational outcomes reported by security agencies across different theatres, including efforts to degrade criminal networks, rescue abducted persons, and stabilise vulnerable communities. While challenges persist in some areas, these outcomes point to steady progress that must be consolidated.

Rotimi reiterated that Nigeria's complex security challenges did not emerge overnight and cannot be solved through isolated efforts. He affirmed that the National Assembly, in partnership with the Executive and security institutions, is actively working to bolster the national security framework. This is being done through legislation, appropriation, and oversight aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness, intelligence coordination, troop welfare, and national preparedness.
