The Nigerian insurance community is celebrating the 59th birthday of Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM). The occasion is marked by reflections on his impactful career and leadership within the industry.

The author, Tola Ogunnubi, shares a personal anecdote from a rainy September evening in 2004. As an insurance agent relying solely on commission, Ogunnubi approached Omosehin, then Managing Director of Admiral Insurance Company Limited, in a Lagos car park. Omosehin, impressed by Ogunnubi's boldness and academic background in Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos, offered him a position with a steady monthly salary, a pivotal moment that redirected Ogunnubi's career path.

Omosehin's own journey in the insurance sector began in June 1993 at Crusader Insurance Plc. Hailing from Ilaje Local Government Area in Ondo State, he pursued higher education, earning a degree in Political Science from Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University) and later Master's degrees in International Law and Diplomacy and Economics from the University of Lagos. His professional development also includes executive training at the Lagos Business School and the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford.
