Nigerian Opposition, Youth Leaders Endorse Tinubu, INEC Over Osun Election Success

A coalition of opposition parties, ethnic youth leaders, and civil society organizations has declared a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The groups specifically commended Professor Amupitan, the INEC Chairman, and the heads of Nigeria's security agencies for their roles in ensuring a free and credible election in Osun State.

The recently concluded Osun State governorship election was described as a significant victory for democracy. Participants and monitors of the electoral process noted that the election demonstrated Nigeria's capacity to organize competitive polls where voters could freely express their choices without intimidation. This outcome has strengthened confidence in Nigeria's democratic journey and provided valuable lessons for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The coalition, speaking through High Chief Uchenna Nnadi, National Chairman of the Action Peoples Party (APP), emphasized that the significance of the Osun poll extended beyond the results for individual parties or candidates. They highlighted the importance of an electoral umpire operating with independence and integrity, praising INEC's conduct in Osun as proof of this.
