Nigerian Police Chief Honors 10 Officers Killed in Anti-Terrorism Operation

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has honored 10 police officers who lost their lives during a fierce encounter with suspected terrorists in Kebbi State. The incident occurred on Monday, August 10, 2026, along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area.

Speaking at a memorial parade at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Disu reminded the public that national security is achieved at a significant cost, frequently paid by officers who place their lives on the line. He emphasized that the sacrifice of these 10 officers serves as a solemn reminder of this reality.

"Let me assure Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property," Disu stated. He pledged continued collaboration with the Armed Forces, other security agencies, state governments, and communities to combat banditry, terrorism, and all forms of violent criminality plaguing the nation. "We shall not be intimidated, we shall not relent, and we shall not allow the sacrifices of our fallen heroes to be in vain," he vowed.

Disu recounted that the officers intercepted a heavily armed group of suspected bandits. In the ensuing engagement, 10 officers were killed, and two others were injured. Tragically, two civilians also lost their lives. However, the sacrifice was not in vain, as at least 17 suspected bandits were neutralized, and four of their motorcycles were destroyed.

Today, we gather with heavy hearts, but with immense pride, to honour 10 gallant officers of the Nigeria Police Force, who paid the supreme price in service to our dear nation during a fierce encounter with suspected bandits along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Monday, 10 August 2026.

Disu assured the families of the fallen officers of the Force's unwavering support, promising that their loved ones' sacrifices would not be forgotten. He reiterated the commitment to pursuing criminal elements, disrupting their activities, and bringing those responsible for attacks on personnel and citizens to justice.
