Nigerian Red Cross donates 700 cartons of therapeutic food to Sokoto State

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Sokoto Branch, in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has provided a significant boost to malnutrition intervention efforts in Sokoto State. A donation of 700 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) was formally handed over to the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency.

This vital contribution is part of the Malnutrition Emergency Appeal Programme and is intended to support vulnerable children suffering from malnutrition. The RUTF will be distributed across three key local government areas: Sokoto North, Sokoto South, and Wamakko, where the program is currently active. This targeted approach ensures that the aid reaches those most in need.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the state government, a representative from the SSPHCDA expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Nigerian Red Cross and IFRC. The representative assured that the therapeutic food would be used strictly for its intended purpose, emphasizing the commitment to combating malnutrition within the state. The Nigerian Red Cross reiterated its dedication to collaborating with government bodies and other stakeholders to strengthen preventative and treatment measures against malnutrition, aiming to improve access to essential health and nutritional services for vulnerable communities.
