Nigerian Soldiers Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover Rifle in Kogi

Troops from the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued a kidnap victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an operation in Nigeria's Kogi State. The 28-year-old victim managed to escape his captors and found assistance from troops operating out of Patrol Base Obajana.

During an initial debriefing, the rescued individual informed soldiers that he had been abducted approximately five weeks prior from the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory and held captive within the region. Acting on this information, the troops proceeded to the location where the victim stated he had been detained.

The army reported that the suspected kidnappers fled into the surrounding terrain upon sighting the approaching soldiers, abandoning an AK-47 rifle. "The criminals, on sighting the troops, abandoned their position and fled into the surrounding terrain," the statement read. The victim was subsequently evacuated to a military medical facility for necessary treatment.

This operation is part of ongoing security efforts targeting kidnappers and other criminal elements in Kogi State, particularly in forested areas and along major transport routes. In a separate incident on August 10, army troops, in collaboration with police, vigilantes, and hunters, rescued 16 individuals abducted along roads in the Ofu Local Government Area. That operation involved a gun battle, resulting in the death of one local hunter and injury to a police officer.

Further compounding the security situation, troops in June rescued five kidnap victims abandoned by fleeing terrorists in Adankolo Forest. The army is reportedly leveraging the recent developments to pursue the fleeing suspects and dismantle their networks, urging residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
