Nigerian Troops Neutralize Bandit Leaders, Destroy Hideouts in Sokoto Border Area

Troops operating under Operation Hadarin Daji have achieved a significant victory against bandits plaguing Sokoto and Zamfara states. In a targeted offensive around the Dangulbi and Kurawa villages in Tureta Local Government Area, a strategic border region with Zamfara, security forces eliminated several high-profile bandit kingpins and dismantled their fortified camps.

A security source revealed that the operation involved intense combat, with troops storming the bandits' elevated positions. Several insurgents were neutralized during the fierce exchange of gunfire. The source indicated that some of the key figures coordinating attacks in the border communities were among those killed. Many other bandits managed to escape with injuries, fleeing into the dense forests that extend into neighboring states.

The successful operation was a collaborative effort involving personnel from the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, alongside other security agencies and local vigilante groups possessing intimate knowledge of the terrain. Soldiers successfully recovered a substantial cache of weapons and motorcycles that the bandits utilized for their swift attacks and movements across the porous border areas.

Retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, along with other community leaders, lauded the Nigerian Army's efforts. They expressed optimism that continued operations will lead to the restoration of lasting peace in the affected border areas, acknowledging the professionalism and courage displayed by the military in averting potential tragedy for the residents.
