Nigerian Troops Overrun Terrorist Enclave, Rescue 360 Captives

Nigerian troops have liberated 360 hostages from a major terrorist stronghold in the Mandara Mountains, southern Borno State. The successful operation, carried out by the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), targeted a deeply entrenched Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) base.

Scores of men, women, and children, abducted from communities including Ngoshe, were freed from harsh captivity. Lieutenant Colonel Haruna Sani, Acting Media Information Officer for OPHK, stated the rescue was the culmination of extensive intelligence preparation, covert reconnaissance, and meticulous operational planning. He emphasized that the operation showcased OPHK's expanding operational reach, intelligence dominance, and tactical superiority.

The mission was initiated after credible intelligence pinpointed the hostages' location and revealed a supporting insurgent network. OPHK intelligence elements integrated human intelligence, signals intelligence, and persistent surveillance, including drone and reconnaissance patrols, to map the objective area. Commanders gained a comprehensive understanding of the terrain, enemy positions, and abductee conditions, identifying vulnerabilities to minimize risks during the rescue.

Key breakthroughs included the infiltration of the terrorist network by cultivated intelligence assets. These assets provided timely, actionable information on abductee locations, insurgent commanders, security arrangements, and escape routes. Coordinated information and psychological operations also sowed uncertainty and mistrust among the insurgents, weakening their command and control.
