Nigerians win seven medals at African Archery Champs

Team Nigeria made history at the 15th African Archery Championships in Oran, Algeria, achieving its most successful outing to date with a total of seven medals.

The standout achievement was a maiden team gold medal in the barebow women's event. The trio of Faith Adekogbe, Mandu Eteidung, and Precious Fanny-Amun defeated host nation Algeria 5-3 in the final to claim the continental title, marking a significant milestone for Nigerian archery.

Individual performances were also strong, with Faith Adekogbe being the most decorated athlete of the campaign. She secured three medals in total: the team gold, an individual silver in the barebow women's event after reaching the final as the top seed, and another silver in the barebow mixed team alongside Abubakar Usman.

The standout result came in the barebow women’s team final, where the trio of Faith Adekogbe, Mandu Eteidung and Precious Fanny-Amun defeated hosts Algeria five-three to be crowned African champions, marking the country’s first team title on the continental stage.

Nigeria's success extended across various barebow categories, with the men's team also securing a silver medal. In the compound events, the team added three more medals, including silver in the compound men's team and mixed team events. Yvonne Hareke Evans-Uhegbu earned an individual bronze in the compound women's event.

This impressive haul of seven medals, one gold, five silver, and one bronze, surpasses Nigeria's previous performances at the African Championships in 2022 and 2023. The contingent of 18 athletes, the largest ever sent by Nigeria to an African Championship, competed across six divisions, showcasing the nation's growing strength in the sport.
