Night Search for Six Missing People From Capsized Busan Tugboat Enters Seventh Day

The search for six people missing after a tugboat capsized and sank off Busan has entered its seventh night, with seven vessels deployed by the Busan Coast Guard.

The vessel, the 286-ton TNS Catcher, had eight people on board. The night search covers the same area as the daytime operation, a sea zone measuring 31 kilometers from east to west and 70 kilometers from north to south, based on drift projections.

During the day, authorities used 16 vessels and seven aircraft. The Navy's Ganghwado함 also deployed a remotely operated vehicle for an underwater search. Video from the ROV showed the sunken vessel's name and condition at a depth of 87 meters, and officials shared the images with the families of those missing.

The coast guard plans to continue joint searches along the shore and coast with 66 coast guard station personnel, 205 local government police officers, 63 military personnel and 19 civilians. No missing people or personal effects have been found so far. A high-wave preliminary advisory remains in effect off Busan, with northeast winds of 10 to 12 meters per second in the accident area.
