Nighttime crash on Croatia’s A3 leaves two seriously injured

A car veered across Croatia’s A3 motorway near Velika Kopanica shortly after midnight on Sunday, hitting a central metal barrier and a post before leaving the road again.

Police said the 61-year-old driver, who was driving a car with Slovenian registration plates, lost control after failing to keep to his side of the road. The vehicle first crossed onto the northern grass verge and struck the barrier and post. It then returned to the motorway, continued moving uncontrollably, and left the road onto the southern grass verge.

The driver and a 46-year-old passenger, aged 46, suffered serious injuries. Another passenger, aged 64, sustained minor injuries. All three were taken to hospital in Slavonski Brod for further treatment.

Traffic continued in the right-hand lane with occasional interruptions during the police investigation. The motorway returned to normal at 3:15 a.m. Police said they would submit a criminal complaint to the state prosecutor’s office in Slavonski Brod against the driver on suspicion of causing a road traffic accident.
