NiMet, NCCC Deepen Collaboration on Climate Services, Climate Action

Nigeria's Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) are set to enhance their collaboration on climate services and action. NiMet's Director-General, Prof. Charles Anosike, visited the NCCC to discuss strengthening joint efforts in climate data management and national climate resilience.

Prof. Anosike emphasized NiMet's role in providing essential atmospheric data for climate trend analysis and projections. He highlighted the need for closer cooperation in developing climate projections, improving early warning systems, standardizing climate data, and conducting joint research to inform climate policies. This collaboration is crucial for providing policymakers with localized, science-based information to implement effective adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Dr. Tenioye Majekodunmi, Director-General of the NCCC, welcomed the initiative, acknowledging NiMet's contributions and expressing strong support for closer institutional ties. The two agencies plan to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement will foster sustained collaboration in climate services, data management, research, early warning systems, and capacity development.
