Nine Doosan Enerbility Employees Rescued in Nepal Return to South Korea as Search for Nine Others Continues

Nine Doosan Enerbility employees rescued after flooding at a Nepal hydropower construction site returned to South Korea on Aug. 31, while teams continued searching for nine other Korean workers who remain unreachable.

Doosan Enerbility said the employees arrived home in the afternoon and returned to their families after health checks. The site manager stayed in Nepal to support the search operation.

The employees returned home this afternoon and, after checking their health, went back to their families.

The company said the returning workers were physically and psychologically exhausted after experiencing a sudden disaster and becoming isolated. It said it had limited outside contact in line with the employees’ wishes so they could reunite quietly with their families and recover.

Nine Korean workers are still unaccounted for: six from Doosan Enerbility and three from Korea South-East Power. Flooding struck the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower construction site in Nepal’s central-northern Rasuwa district on Aug. 26, isolating some Korean employees and cutting off contact with others.

The project involves construction of a 216-megawatt hydropower plant on the Trishuli River, about 70 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu. Korea South-East Power participates in the project, while Doosan Enerbility is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction.
