Nine killed, eight injured in Bauchi highway crash

A severe road accident near Zangoro village on the Bauchi-Maiduguri Federal Highway resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and injuries to eight others. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident occurred late Monday night, with their personnel arriving 15 minutes after the report.

Nine people were burnt beyond recognition while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash near Zangoro village along the Bauchi-Maiduguri Federal Highway.

The crash involved a commercial Toyota bus and a MAN diesel tipper truck. The FRSC identified a tyre burst on the commercial bus as the likely cause of the collision. All 17 male adults involved were accounted for, with nine confirmed dead and beyond recognition, while the remaining eight sustained injuries.

FRSC personnel arrived at the scene at about 11:40 p.m., recording a response time of 15 minutes.

Injured passengers were transported to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for medical attention. The bodies of those who perished were taken to the hospital morgue. The damaged vehicles and other recovered items were handed over to the Bauchi State Police Command for further investigation into the incident.
