Nine Sudanese Migrants Arrested in Morocco Near Tangier

Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie officers apprehended nine Sudanese migrants on the evening of Monday, July 27, 2026, on the highway near Tangier. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal immigration.

Sources indicated that the gendarmerie intercepted a Dacia Stepway rental car originating from Moulay Bousselham. The vehicle was carrying nine irregular migrants of Sudanese nationality. The car belonged to a rental agency in Kenitra.

The driver, a Moroccan citizen, was reportedly paid 150 dirhams per person to transport the migrants to El Qsar El Seghir. He is now facing charges for organizing illegal immigration.

According to Hespress sources, the nine irregular migrants had previously traveled by first-class taxi from Mohammedia to Moulay Bousselham. The arrest was carried out under the instructions of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Tangier Court of Appeal.

The driver has been placed under police custody. The impounded vehicle will be sent to the municipal warehouse, and the migrants have been handed over to local authorities for deportation.
