Nissan's new Sentra gets a stealthy Midnight Edition, Taiwan launch eyed for 2027

Nissan has unveiled a new Midnight Edition for its Sentra SR, enhancing its sporty appearance with a range of blacked-out exterior elements. The special edition boasts black badging, black window trim, and 18-inch black alloy wheels. Buyers can also opt for a black roof, available with four two-tone body color combinations, further accentuating the Sentra SR's aggressive styling.

Beyond aesthetics, Nissan has refined the Sentra's continuously variable transmission (CVT). The retuned gearbox promises a smoother, more linear acceleration experience with quicker and more predictable responses. Additionally, the Midnight Edition incorporates new Qi2 wireless charging for faster and more stable device charging.

The new-generation Sentra has already launched in North America. However, its arrival in Taiwan is not expected until 2027. This timeline accounts for the current generation's recent introduction in Taiwan in 2024 and potential import strategies. Shifting U.S.-Taiwan trade relations, particularly regarding potential reductions in import tariffs, could influence whether Nissan's Taiwanese partner, Yulon Nissan, opts for domestic production or imports the new model from the U.S.
