Nnaabagereka Calls On Church to Champion Moral Renewal Through the Gospel

Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, the Queen of Buganda, has called upon the Church of Uganda to spearhead societal transformation by preaching the Gospel in ways that inspire moral renewal, strengthen families, and foster responsible citizenship. Speaking at the 28th Bishops' Conference of the Church of Uganda, held at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, she emphasized the Church's unique role in shaping society.

Nagginda stated that the Church has a distinct responsibility to mold society by nurturing values that uphold human dignity and promote peaceful coexistence. She urged religious leaders to continue championing principles such as love, unity, respect for culture, integrity, and good morals. According to the Queen of Buganda, embracing these values is essential for tackling many of the country's social problems, suggesting that their adoption would lead to a reduction in crime, corruption, and moral decay.

Furthermore, the Nnaabagereka challenged the Church to increase its involvement in environmental conservation. She encouraged bishops to mobilize communities for initiatives like tree planting, rainwater harvesting, and the adoption of clean energy technologies such as biogas. Nagginda highlighted environmental stewardship as a critical responsibility that should be integrated into the Church's ministry and community outreach programs.

Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda acknowledged the Nnaabagereka's significant contributions to nurturing responsible and morally upright youth through her Ekisaakaate program. He noted that this initiative instills discipline, integrity, and responsibility among Uganda's youth, complementing the Church's broader efforts to build strong families and communities. The conference itself, themed "Strengthened in Christ for Unity, Resilience and Peace," brings together bishops to reflect on the Church's role in fostering unity, resilience, and peace.
