NNPC: $3.4bn Saved Through Contract Restructuring, N19.5tn Remitted to Federation in 14 Months

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) announced significant financial achievements, reporting savings of $3.4 billion through contract restructuring and optimization. Over a 14-month period, from April 2025 to July 2026, the company also remitted N19.5 trillion to the Federation Account.

Bayo Ojulari, NNPC's Group Chief Executive Officer, highlighted these figures while discussing ongoing reforms aimed at boosting operational efficiency, reducing costs, and strengthening partnerships. He also confirmed the company's full compliance with joint venture cash call obligations, urging partners to reciprocate.

In a move to enhance the attractiveness of Nigeria's oil and gas sector to investors, the federal government has engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The firm will conduct a global benchmarking of over 270 fees, taxes, and rents imposed on industry operators. This initiative seeks to eliminate fiscal bottlenecks and make Nigeria more competitive in attracting capital, following concerns raised by the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG).

Additionally, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited reported a significant hydrocarbon discovery in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 74, boosting Nigeria's reserves. This discovery occurred less than a year after the company acquired Shell's onshore assets. Preliminary evaluations suggest the JK-004 exploration well encountered substantial hydrocarbon-bearing columns across seven reservoirs, indicating excellent reservoir quality and light oil.
