Lagos State officials have moved to quell public anxiety regarding the Ebola Virus Disease, assuring residents that no confirmed or suspected cases exist within the state. This reassurance follows recent international alerts about outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

The Lagos State Government has assured residents that there are no confirmed or suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease in the state amid concerns over outbreaks reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

Professor Akin Abayomi, the state's Commissioner for Health, stated on Monday that there is "no cause for alarm." He emphasized that Lagos, a major international entry point, is diligently monitoring global developments concerning the Ebola outbreaks, adhering to directives from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The World Health Organization has declared the outbreaks in DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, with hundreds of suspected cases and numerous deaths reported.

There is no cause for alarm, stressing that no suspected case of Ebola had been detected in Lagos.

Abayomi highlighted Lagos's "robust and tested biosecurity architecture," which he affirmed remains fully activated and prepared to swiftly detect, contain, and respond to Ebola and any other biological threats. He noted that the state has developed a resilient system, rigorously tested during past outbreaks like Ebola and COVID-19, designed for continuous preparedness and response against high-consequence infectious diseases. The state's Incident Command System and Emergency Operations Centre are operational around the clock, ensuring rapid deployment of resources and coordination during public health emergencies.
