No Evacuation for Langenfeld and Arft as Forest Fire Contained

Residents of Langenfeld and Arft can breathe a sigh of relief as a large forest and area fire has been brought under control, negating the need for evacuation. "Thank God we did not have to implement these measures," said Rainer Nell, the district's fire and disaster protection inspector.

However, the incident was not without its toll. Seven firefighters suffered minor injuries, with four requiring transport to a hospital. The injuries included light burns, a twisted ankle, and heat exhaustion, according to the district's chief emergency physician, Mario Klingbeil.

While the main areas were spared, a more remote district, Netterhöfe, saw 20 to 25 houses evacuated. Nell explained this was a necessary measure because the fire came very close to the homes, forcing the situation.

The blaze ignited early in the afternoon near Langscheid in the Mayen-Koblenz district. Hundreds of emergency personnel worked for hours to contain the fire.
