‘No offence detected’: Victoria police close investigation into Moira Deeming allegation of assault by Matthew Guy

Victoria police have concluded their investigation into an allegation of assault made by Liberal MP Moira Deeming against her colleague Matthew Guy, determining that "no offence was detected." The investigation stemmed from Deeming's report to police on June 16, alleging that Guy, the opposition's public transport spokesperson, had assaulted her at a Macedonian community event in Sunshine on May 23.

Sources close to Guy indicated that he strongly denied the allegation and had been considering defamation action against Deeming. In comments made to The Age newspaper, Guy stated, "These claims were ridiculous and unsubstantiated, just as the police found."

In a statement released late Thursday, police confirmed they had investigated reports of an assault at a venue in Sunshine West on May 23, where a woman alleged she was assaulted by a man. The woman did not require medical attention, and the incident was reported to police on June 16.

Following a comprehensive review, investigators determined that no offense had been committed. Police confirmed they had engaged with the woman who made the report. The opposition leader, Jess Wilson, had previously declined to comment on the allegations while the investigation was ongoing, emphasizing the importance of due process and privacy for all parties involved.
