NOA calls for national unity against insurgency

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a strong call for national unity, urging all Nigerians to stand together against insurgency and other security challenges. The agency stressed that the country's diversity is a significant strength that must be protected from criminal elements aiming to sow fear and division.

This appeal comes in the wake of a successful security operation that led to the rescue of students and teachers abducted from schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The NOA Director-General, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, praised the gallantry, professionalism, and commitment of Nigeria's security agencies, highlighting the operation as a testament to what can be achieved through coordinated efforts and effective intelligence.

The responsibility of securing our nation does not rest with government and security agencies alone. Every Nigerian has a role to play. When citizens cooperate with security agencies, share credible information and reject narratives that divide us, we strengthen our collective ability to protect our communities and preserve our country.

Issa-Onilu specifically commended the month-long operation conducted in the dense forests of the Old Oyo National Park. Security operatives meticulously planned and shared intelligence, disrupting terrorist logistics, neutralizing support structures, and ensuring the victims' safe rescue without any concessions or ransom payments. He stated that this success sends a clear message: determined, unified nations cannot be outwitted by criminal elements.

The NOA Director-General also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities, and reject divisive narratives. He emphasized that securing the nation is a shared responsibility, requiring cooperation, information sharing, and a collective resolve to defeat those threatening Nigeria's peace. He paid tribute to security personnel who made sacrifices or sustained injuries, acknowledging their courage and patriotism in keeping Nigeria safe. The NOA remains committed to promoting national values and civic consciousness across the country.
