Nollywood actor Kola Oyewo brought honour to Yorubaland, Ooni mourns

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has lauded the late veteran Nollywood actor, theatre scholar, and cultural icon, Pa Kola Oyewo, describing him as a "pride of Yorubaland." Oyewo, whose death was announced on Friday, has been the subject of numerous tributes from colleagues, family, and industry stakeholders.

In a condolence message released on Saturday, the Ooni emphasized Oyewo's remarkable contributions to theatre, culture, and education. He stated that the late actor's works would be permanently etched in the history of Nigerian performing arts. Born on March 27, 1946, in Oba-Ile, Osun State, Oyewo was highly respected for his extensive work in stage performance, film, and academic theatre.

Although a native of Oba-Ile, Oyewo spent a significant portion of his life in Ile-Ife, becoming a cherished figure and a major contributor to the cultural and intellectual landscape of the ancient city. The Ooni noted that Oyewo's legacy extended beyond his artistic endeavors, encompassing education, mentorship, and cultural preservation. He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased and extended condolences to the Oyewo family, urging them to find solace in his impactful life and achievements.
