Nollywood stars, gospel singers, others gather for Alexx Ekubo’s service of songs

The Nigerian entertainment industry united in mourning as colleagues, friends, and dignitaries gathered for the service of songs for the late Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo. The popular actor passed away on May 11, 2026, following a battle with kidney cancer.

Family, friends, and colleagues convened at The Monarch Event Centre, all dressed in white attire, to honor Ekubo's memory. Videos circulating on social media showed prominent figures from the movie, music, and lifestyle sectors in attendance. Notable attendees included actresses Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Ebele Okaro, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, and Nkechi Blessing.

Celebrity couple Stan Nze and Blessing Obasi, actor Frederick Leonard, media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, singer Chike Osebukam, and socialite Cubana Chief Priest were also present. The spiritual atmosphere was enhanced by performances from gospel ministers Peterson Okopi and Ebuka Songs, alongside Pastor Jerry Eze, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings.

The service of songs officially commenced Ekubo's burial rites. According to the funeral itinerary, a wake-keep is scheduled for June 17 in his home state of Abia State, followed by his final interment on June 18. The Ekubo family had previously released an obituary statement, urging fans to keep the immediate family in their thoughts and prayers.
