Nonghyup Hanaro Distribution Fined 462 Million Won for Unfair Practices

Nonghyup Hanaro Distribution faces a significant penalty of 462 million won from South Korea's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) for engaging in unfair trade practices. The FTC announced on August 9th that the company had violated fair trade laws by delaying the provision of essential written contracts to its suppliers and vendors over a period spanning more than three years, from early 2021 to July 2024.

According to the FTC's investigation, Nonghyup Hanaro Distribution entered into supply and vendor agreements with 426 different businesses during the specified period. However, the company failed to promptly deliver the required written contracts, which are crucial for outlining the terms of trade, transaction details, and other critical aspects of the business relationships. This delay is a direct violation of the Fair Trade Act, which mandates timely and transparent contractual agreements.

The FTC's action aims to rectify these unfair practices and ensure a more equitable business environment for suppliers and vendors who rely on clear contractual terms. The imposed fine reflects the severity and duration of the violations, sending a message to Nonghyup Hanaro Distribution and other large distributors about the importance of adhering to fair trade regulations.
