Norris Signs McLaren Extension to 2030, Eyes Career-Long Stint

Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren, signing a contract extension that will keep him with the Formula One team until at least the end of 2030. The British driver, who has secured victories in the last two races, announced the news to McLaren employees, emphasizing his strong connection to the team.

Norris expressed his contentment at McLaren, stating, "I kind of want my whole career to be with McLaren because I'm happy here and I don't want to change." He articulated a desire to compete and win with McLaren through both challenging and successful periods, ultimately hoping to conclude his career having only raced for the Woking-based outfit.

The new deal includes a multi-year option beyond 2030, reinforcing McLaren's confidence in their collaborative direction. Team principal Andrea Stella highlighted the continuity the extension provides and praised the strong partnership between Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri, describing them as one of the most united teams in Formula One.

While media reports have speculated that the new contract places Norris among the highest earners in Formula One, he suggested the figures are exaggerated. "It's certainly not close to the figures that I've been seeing online, sadly," Norris commented, adding that his salary should not match that of champions like Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton, given his own career achievements thus far. He expressed a long-term ambition to reach such earning levels.

Norris also revealed that while other teams showed interest, he felt no inclination to explore other options, viewing it as a potential betrayal. His focus remains on achieving success with McLaren, a team he joined in 2017 and made his F1 debut with in 2019, accumulating 13 Grand Prix wins and 18 pole positions.
