Norris wins his first grand prix of year in Hungary

Lando Norris claimed his and McLaren's maiden victory of the season at a dramatic Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday. The British driver dominated the race, expressing his elation at being back in the top spot. "My pace today was probably some of the best pace I've ever had," Norris stated. "The car was beautiful to drive and I had confidence."

While Norris secured a comfortable win, the battle for podium places intensified in the closing laps. Max Verstappen, driving for Red Bull, narrowly held onto second place after a successful strategy gamble. Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli finished third, extending his championship lead over Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Ferrari's Hamilton finished fourth on track but received a five-second penalty for a pit lane speeding violation, dropping him to fifth behind his teammate Charles Leclerc.

The race saw significant drama for McLaren. Norris' teammate Oscar Piastri led for much of the early race but retired from second place due to a gearbox failure. A controversial strategy call saw Norris pitted later than Piastri, a decision that initially caused friction. Piastri, who had been delayed by a collision with Carlos Sainz while lapping the Spaniard, was visibly unhappy. However, Norris' superior pace after his pit stop justified the team's decision, allowing him to build a commanding lead.
