North Jakarta PAN Chair Explains Role in Coal Bribery Case

Bebizie Sri Mulyati, the North Jakarta chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), has clarified her position after being questioned by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as a witness in a money laundering case. The case involves alleged gratification from coal production in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan.

Mulyati explained that her involvement was purely as a singer hired by an unnamed company to perform in East Kalimantan during 2017-2018. She stated that the KPK investigators questioned her about payments received for these professional engagements.

"My status as a singer performing at an event in East Kalimantan, so I was asked what my connection was. Then I explained that in 2017-2018 I sang twice in East Kalimantan, invited by a company," Mulyati said after her examination at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta.

The KPK has named three coal companies in Kutai Kartanegara as suspects in the alleged corruption case, which is reportedly linked to former Regent Rita Widyasari. The companies are PT Sinar Kumala Naga, PT Alamjaya Barapratama, and PT Bara Kumala Sakti. These firms are suspected of being used to receive gratification for Rita Widyasari. Several other witnesses, including politicians and businessmen, have also been questioned in connection with the ongoing investigation.
