North Zealand bridge closed for three months for renovations

The Kronprins Frederiks Bro in North Zealand, Denmark, is set to close to car traffic starting today and continuing through October to undergo essential renovations. The bridge, which spans over 90 years of age, connects Jægerspris and Frederikssund across Roskilde Fjord.

Motorists needing to cross the fjord will be directed to use the Kronprinsesse Marys Bro, located further south. However, the Danish Road Directorate warns that this alternative route will likely result in extended travel times and increased congestion, particularly during peak hours. This closure is expected to significantly impact daily commutes for residents in the affected areas.

Despite the closure for vehicular traffic, the bridge will remain accessible to cyclists and pedestrians. The renovation work will be conducted in stages, addressing one side of the bridge at a time. This approach ensures that the sidewalk and the bicycle path can continue to be used throughout the entire renovation period, minimizing disruption for non-motorized users.

In addition to the bridge closure, several bus routes will be affected. Bus lines 315, 316, 318, 65E, 98N, and 230R will operate on altered routes from today until the end of October. Passengers relying on these services are advised to check for updated schedules and route information.
