Northern govs appoint ex-CDS, ex-defence minister Security Trust Fund co-chairs

In a significant move to bolster regional security, the Northern States Governors' Forum has inaugurated the Board of Trustees for the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund. This initiative marks a crucial step in the region's concerted efforts to combat escalating insecurity.

Former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (retd.), and former Minister of Defence and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, have been appointed as the co-chairmen of the board. The inauguration took place on Wednesday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna during a meeting of the Northern States Governors' Forum.

The newly formed board is composed of distinguished individuals, including retired military officers, former heads of security agencies, and senior public servants, all drawn from the 19 northern states. Notable members include former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya (retd.), former Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, and retired Air Vice Marshal Kabiru Aliyu.

This development is accompanied by a financial commitment from the northern governors, who have pledged N1 billion monthly to support the Security Trust Fund. The forum aims to leverage the expertise of the board members to strengthen collaboration and implement effective strategies against insecurity plaguing the region.
