Northern Vietnam braces for heavy rain, southern regions face heat

Northern Vietnam is bracing for significant rainfall on June 9, as the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts heavy to very heavy downpours and thunderstorms across the region. The Tây Bắc (Northwest) region, along with northern areas of Phú Thọ and Tuyên Quang provinces, are expected to bear the brunt of the severe weather, with rainfall amounts potentially exceeding 250mm in some locations. While the intensity may slightly decrease by the afternoon, showers are expected to persist.

Further south, the Bắc Trung Bộ (North Central Coast) region will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with Hà Tĩnh province anticipating scattered showers. Areas from Quảng Trị to Đà Nẵng, and the eastern parts of Quảng Ngãi to Đắk Lắk provinces, will see sunny conditions with some areas experiencing intense heat. However, these regions can expect scattered rain and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.

Southern Vietnam and other areas will generally be sunny, with some locations experiencing heatwaves. The Central Highlands and southern regions may see scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. The forecast warns of potential hazards during these thunderstorms, including whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Detailed rainfall predictions indicate significant accumulation in various regions, with Đồng bằng Bắc Bộ (Red River Delta) and Hải Phòng City expecting 20-40mm, and some areas potentially exceeding 100mm.

Specific forecasts for major cities include Hanoi, where temperatures will range from a low of 23-25°C to a high of 28-30°C, accompanied by moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. The Tây Bắc region will see lows of 21-25°C and highs of 27-30°C, also with heavy rain. Coastal areas in the South Central region will experience hot weather, with temperatures reaching 35-37°C, while the Central Highlands will have highs of 30-33°C and southern regions, including Ho Chi Minh City, will see highs of 32-35°C, with the possibility of heavy rain in the afternoon.
