Norwegian goal machine fires FC Copenhagen back onto winning track

FC Copenhagen needed a response after their 4-0 humiliation by Viborg, and they found it in a 3-1 home victory over Sønderjyske. Mohamed Elyounoussi supplied the decisive edge with two goals at Parken.

Sønderjyske struck first after seven minutes in front of 20,073 spectators. Ismael Seydi reached the byline and sent the ball into the area, where Alexander Munksgaard arrived unmarked to score his first goal for the club since joining from Norwegian football.

Copenhagen controlled much of the match but initially struggled to turn pressure into goals. Sønderjyske nearly doubled their lead when Maxime Soulas fired wide, again after Seydi created the opening. Instead, Copenhagen equalised after half an hour when Elyounoussi collected a loose ball, turned in the box and scored via the post.

The home side moved ahead in first-half stoppage time. Mads Emil Madsen struck a powerful shot that goalkeeper Nicolai Flø could not keep out, with Elyounoussi providing the assist. Sønderjyske began the second half with energy, hitting the crossbar through Sefer Emini, while Mohamed Cherif went close and goalkeeper Diant Ramaj produced a strong save.

Elyounoussi settled the contest in the 64th minute by following up a rebound for his sixth league goal in five matches. Five minutes later, Sønderjyske went down to 10 men when Brynjar Ingi Bjarnason received a red card for stopping Elyounoussi’s run. Copenhagen climbed to fourth with 12 points, while Sønderjyske remained last without a win. FC Nordsjælland led with 13 points before their match at Parken on Thursday.
