‘Not a Slip of the Tongue’: Golan Says Sara Netanyahu’s October 7 Comments Were Planned

Yair Golan says Sara Netanyahu’s accusation against him was no accidental remark. The Democrats Party chairman described her suggestion that he knew about the October 7 attacks in advance as part of a coordinated effort to damage him and other opponents of the government.

“It’s not a slip of the tongue. I simply see what’s happening on the networks, what elements within the Likud, within the coalition, have been saying about me since October 7. This is not some slip of the tongue; it’s a planned move,” Golan said in an interview broadcast on Maariv’s podcast.

Sara Netanyahu made the claim in a Channel 14 interview, pointing to Golan’s military rank and his early presence on the morning of the attacks. She said that someone who had fought on October 7 had already been present, dressed and prepared, at a time when others, including the prime minister, did not yet know what was happening.

Golan accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s political project of eroding Israeli social norms and values. He said the same method had existed before the war, beginning during the judicial overhaul protests in January 2023: opponents, he argued, were branded traitors, and conspiracy theories were invented when other accusations could not be sustained.

He said support from journalists and clearly right-wing figures outside his political camp had encouraged him. “It means that once we have some kind of common normative basis, that we know how to admit the truth together, then there’s something to talk about,” Golan said. He also recalled waking at 6:15 a.m. on October 7, noticing unusual movement and later telling his wife at 8 a.m. that he had to return to the army.
