Nottingham Forest owner involved in heated altercation at Basketball Euroleague final

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was reportedly involved in a heated altercation during the Euroleague Basketball final in Athens on Sunday. Videos circulating on social media appear to show the owner of the English football club arguing in the stands while security personnel intervened.

Marinakis, who also owns the basketball team Olympiacos B.C., was present to watch his team secure a 92-85 victory over Real Madrid Baloncesto. According to BBC Sport, footage shared online depicted the 58-year-old with a ripped shirt, engaged in a confrontation with another individual. Barriers and security officials separated them, and the identity of the person Marinakis was arguing with was not clearly visible in the video.

Greek media reports later suggested the other individual involved was Grigoris Dimitriadis, a former advisor to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, though this has not been officially confirmed. The incident took place on the same day Nottingham Forest finished their Premier League season with a 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth, securing 16th place in the standings.

This is not the first time Marinakis has faced controversy during his ownership of Nottingham Forest. In 2024, he received a five-match stadium ban for improper conduct. Later that year, the club was fined £750,000 after a social media post questioned the integrity of a VAR official, an action the Football Association deemed "ill-chosen and irresponsible."
