NPC begins digital birth, death registration in Kwara

The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially commenced the full digital registration of births and deaths across Kwara State, Nigeria. This rollout utilizes the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system, specifically the VitalReg platform, which became operational in all 16 local government areas on July 1, 2026.

It is my distinct honour and privilege, on behalf of the National Population Commission, Kwara State, to formally announce the full commencement of the digital registration of births and deaths on the VitalReg platform under the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics system.

Yahaya Isiaka Alada, the Federal Commissioner representing Kwara State at the NPC, announced the initiative, emphasizing its significance as a transformative reform in the state's civil registration history. He noted that this digital innovation aligns with the national E-CRVS system launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in November 2023. Alada stressed that accurate civil registration is crucial for reliable state statistics that inform public policy and resource allocation.

This digital innovation is one of the most transformative reforms in the history of civil registration in Kwara State.

Alada highlighted a persistent challenge where many births and deaths in Kwara go unregistered, denying residents legal identity and hindering the availability of reliable demographic data for effective state planning. To address this, the NPC has established 92 functional registration centers across the state and is actively working to expand this network. The commission is also strengthening collaborations with key stakeholders to enhance the capacity of registration personnel and ensure all vital events are promptly and accurately recorded through the digital platform.
