NSCDC busts fake Lagos varsity, rescues 107 students

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a fraudulent university operating in the Imeke village area of Lagos State, leading to the rescue of 107 students and the arrest of six suspects. The institution, whose name was withheld, allegedly admitted students into unaccredited courses, including Nursing, and compelled them to participate in a Ponzi scheme.

Students should be wary of desperate admissions, which may later turn into fraudulent schemes because of the desperation of some people to make money.

The operation, conducted by NSCDC operatives on Monday, July 20, 2026, targeted the illegal institution suspected of running unaccredited programs. The arrested suspects, aged between 24 and 31, are linked to the fake university. Authorities reported that the 107 students were lured into joining a Ponzi scheme after gaining admission.

On Monday, July 20, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m., NSCDC operatives smashed a fake university (name withheld) located in Imeke village, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, suspected of operating illegal admissions and running unaccredited courses, including Nursing.

Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Keshinro, has directed that the suspects and recovered exhibits be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for further investigation and prosecution. Keshinro issued a stern warning to prospective students, urging them to be vigilant against fraudulent admission offers, as desperation for enrollment can make individuals vulnerable to criminal schemes.

Unfortunately, about 107 unsuspecting students were lured into joining a Ponzi scheme after obtaining admission into the institution.

In separate operations, the NSCDC also announced the arrest of 12 other individuals linked to illegal migration, human trafficking, Ponzi schemes, cross-border crimes, and vandalism. Among those arrested were nationals from Cameroon, Niger, and several Nigerians. These operations also resulted in the rescue of 10 Cameroonian nationals who were allegedly trafficked into Nigeria. The victims reportedly suffered for months under their captors before their rescue.

The victims “have toiled and suffered for months in the hands of these evil doers, who are only interested in dehumanising their fellow human beings for profit.”
